FAQ

  • Can I use out-of-network benefits?

In some cases you may be eligible to use out-of-network insurance benefits. You will be responsible for paying for each session in full at time of appointment.

  • How much will I pay using out-of-network benefits?

If you have out-of-network benefits, they typically will reimburse you for 20-80% of the cost of each session. Every insurance company is different and it is best to call ahead of time if you have question about reimbursement.

  • How do I use out-of-network benefits?

Your out-of-network benefits are usually pretty straightforward to use. Most insurance companies have you upload your monthly superbill online (it’ll be sent to you on the 10th of each month) and then they will mail you a check with your reimbursement.

It’s always a good idea to call the number on the back of your health insurance card listed under Member Services.

  • What if I can't afford it? Do you offer a sliding scale?

Yes, I reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots in my schedule. If you do not think you can afford my full fee, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

If I’m unable to offer you a sliding scale spot, I’d be happy to offer referrals to trusted clinicians in the area.

  • What if i'm not sure if we're a good fit?

Before scheduling a therapy session, we’ll book a 15 minute intro call. This gives us the chance to get to know each other. Here’s what you can expect:

I’ll ask you about why you’re seeking therapy

I’ll tell you a bit about myself and my approach as a therapist

You can ask me any questions that I didn’t cover

We’ll talk about rates, insurance, availability, etc.

  • We are a good fit, what's next?

If we both decide we're a good fit after our intro call, we'll schedule our first therapy appointment. I'll send you a couple of quick forms to complete before our first session. If we are meeting via telehealth, I will send you a link for our video calls that you can use every week.

  • What's the first session like?

As a therapist, I take a collaborative, non-judgmental, and relatable approach to make starting therapy easier. In our first sessions, I’ll ask questions to understand your life and relationships better, listening without judgment. Together, we’ll set goals for what you want to achieve.

Throughout therapy, you’ll have space to vent, gain insight, challenge unhelpful thoughts, and learn new coping skills. Therapy can be both challenging and uplifting. I’m here to support you every step of the way as you work toward the growth and change you desire.

  • How often will we meet?

I meet with the majority of my clients on a weekly basis. I ask that all new clients commit to meeting weekly, for at least the first 6 weeks. This will allow us to start off on a strong foot, so you can start seeing progress right away.

I may recommend that we increase or decrease the frequency of sessions to best meet your needs.

  • How long will we need to be in therapy?

My approach is solutions-focused. This means you won’t have to be in therapy forever. Many of my couples have met their goals in 20 sessions.

I also have clients who choose to remain in therapy for much longer; they have seen improvements and still really enjoy having ongoing support and a place to continue to challenge and grow their relationship.

  • Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
